New iPod nano
Overview
New iPod nanos have landed! In 8 amazing colours!
Let's Rock! This was the call from Apple as they launched their refreshed line of iPod nanos in San Francisco on the 9th September 2008. In keeping with usual Apple product lanunches this one has been shrouded in secrecy and the rumour mill has been put into over drive!
As usual the Internet was full of rumours surrounding all of Apple's current line of products on message boards and forums all over the world, luckily they didn't disappoint on the big day! The big news was the refresh of the iPod nanos which have reverted to the rectangular shape of previous versions, but now they have a much larger widescreen display, and functionality inherited from a certain other Apple product you may have heard of recently, the iPhone.
Shaken, not stirred
In a similar fashion to the iPod touch and the iPhone, the new nanos now have an accelerometer built in! Now you can flip it on its side and watch music videos, movies or TV shows in widescreen on the beautiful, vivid colour display. Also, give it a shake and it will shuffle your songs, or flick it onto its side when playing your favourite tunes and it'll default into CoverFlow mode.
Design and Features
Say hello to the thinnest iPod ever! It features an elegant new design that beautifully blends a brilliant two-inch display with a gorgeous curved aluminum and glass enclosure. With up to 24 hours of music playback or four hours of video playback on a single charge there's not much chance of being caught short on those long journeys. In-car chargers are available for those who like to link their iPods up to their car stereo systems, but the longer battery life should be seen as a big improvement for the casual user.
Of course they integrate seamlessly with iTunes and work with Apple's new iTunes Genius feature, which allows users to automatically create playlists based on the song they are currently listening to. Clever stuff. This is especially useful when you're in the mood for a certain type of music but just can't decide which album to go for. We've tested this feature with a wide range of music and we're glad to report that it works well and certainly knows its Arctic Monkeys from its Girls Aloud!
